The “Intro to Tech” course is a diving specialization that prepares divers to delve into the world of technical diving. This course focuses on teaching divers the skills and knowledge necessary to dive in a more advanced and safe way, using specific technical diving equipment and techniques.
The course program includes a combination of theoretical and practical classes, in which students learn about the theory of technical diving, equipment selection and configuration, and advanced diving techniques. The theoretical classes cover topics such as the physics and physiology of diving, technical diving equipment, dive planning, gas management, buoyancy control, and safety in technical diving.
The practical classes include exercises in the pool and open water, in which students practice safety skills such as underwater communication, equipment management, emergency handling, and planning and executing dives in technical environments. Students are also taught how to use advanced tools and equipment such as the reel and decompression buoy to enhance their diving experience.
The “Intro to Tech” course includes several training objectives, such as the ability to correctly configure technical diving equipment, the skill to plan and execute technical dives safely and effectively, and the ability to work in a team with other technical divers. Course prerequisites:
- Minimum age 18, 15 with parental consent
- Minimum certification: SDI Open Water Scuba Diver or equivalent
- Proof of 25 logged open water dives
